Latymer Upper School
Situated on the banks of the Thames in West London, Latymer Upper School is one of the country's leading fully co-educational schools for children aged 11 - 18 years. We focus on both the academic achievement and the personal development of each and every pupil into well-rounded and caring citizens.
Girls and boys joining the school at 11+ from state primary and prep schools embark on an exciting academic programme designed to inspire their intellectual curiosity and achieve their full potential. We focus on developing both depth and breadth of subject knowledge and understanding as well as learning techniques that will help ensure success at GCSE and A level. Alongside a broad curriculum and dedicated teaching , we offer first-class facilities and a plethora of sporting, musical and artistic opportunities beyond the classroom. The vast majority of pupils then go on to their first choice University both in the UK and abroad.
Part of the School's strength and lasting identity is due to the enduring observation of Latymer Upper's original ethos, which continues to shape all those who study at the site on King Street in Hammersmith. The story of the 17th century lawyer Edward Latymer bestowing part of his great wealth on a grant to educate 'eight poor boies' from Hammersmith has almost mythical status at the School and is celebrated every year on Founder's Day.
As London's leading fully co-educational school, with 1,200 boys and girls of individual characters, Latymer is not a 'one size fits all' school. 'Modern', 'traditional', 'academic', 'caring', 'ambitious' and 'grounded' are some of the words most commonly used to describe the School. Latymer is all of these things and more, focussing on both the academic achievement and the personal development of each and every pupil into well-rounded and caring citizens of the future.
